Hello, lovely readers! By now I am sure that we have all shaken off the never-ending frozen layers of winter snow from our bedrooms or chosen place of hibernation. I would love the opportunity to share with you a new poem that will hopefully ensure that you are warming up and ready to feel the spring sunshine washing over your face.
"ARCHER AVENUE"
If you were a canvas I would paint your body the way it looked last summer at the lake
If I were a painter I could capture the light from the back of your eyes
Your cracked and bleeding lips smiling more beautiful to me than any star
Would it be dramatic to say you gave me a reason to keep going?
For that I’ll forever remember you fondly
Perhaps it was love or maybe infatuation
Either way, you are beautiful
Crimson locks detailed with golden paint pouring through the cabin doors
I wanted to kiss you but I knew you would hit me
We were both girls and your dad was a pastor
The first time I tried LSD I imagined I saw you after all these years
How could such a short amount of time make such an impression?
All I know is that I ran from you like the scene of a crime
That night at the dance
I knew that if I didn’t I might tell you
so here we are
Ivory branches coating a winters breath away from the last good years of our life
I am missing you the same way I did in grade school
Catching my breath on glances from pretty girls in the city
The entire time wishing it was you.
Thank you for your time reading, and I hope your month is filled with love so abundant that it causes you to tear up a little.
Love,
Court
